Information for Authors - Submission to the Journal:

 

Review Process: All articles submitted to WAENT will go through the following review process:

  • Author submits material and "Copyright Release-Conflict of Interest" form.
  • Material is reviewed by editor or co-editor for relevance.
  • Article is searched for plagiarism
  • Article is posted on the web (non-public section) and undergoes copy editing for grammatical errors, misspellings and validity of references.
  • URL of article is then sent to the review board for evaluation by at least two board members.
  • Once evaluations are received, the article is re-edited and comments/approval are obtained by the author
  • Once the final article is approved, it undergoes a final copy edit and is posted for public viewing in WAENT Table of Contents and announced in WAENT's monthly newsletter.

Types of Articles: WAENT accepts a number of different types of articles from clinical notes to controlled research studies. Video and flash presentations to illustrate a clinical point are also accepted. All papers must be submitted in English. Papers are posted and dated once review is complete. WAENT volumes will be closed on June 31st and Dec 31st of each year. For more detailed information click below:

 

Copyright and References: All articles submitted to the World Articles of Ear, Nose and Throat (WAENT) Online Journal must be original and if accepted, copyright is assigned to WAENT. Download Transfer of Copyright and Conflict of Interest Form

All material must be original. We are a world journal and many authors have difficulty with English. We will edit and fix grammar on accepted articles. The important criterion which we use to determine acceptance is the idea behind the work.

DO NOT COPY references word for word. This is easy to do for those who do not have English as their native language. The source of all material needs to be referenced. If a section of the reference material must be copied word for word, enclose it in quotation marks and reference it. Failure to do so can be considered plagiarism.

Duplicate material on the web is fairly easy to catch because of the GOOGLE search engine. There are also sites such as "COPY SCAPE", www.copyscape.com, which specialize in this endeavor. Another website which will analyze grammar and check for plagiarism is EssayRater at http://www.essayrater.com

Copying and not referencing material affects the author's and journal's creditability.

Submitted Videos: All videos on WAENT are reviewed and if necessary, modified with the author's permission. Modifications often includes cropping, adjustment of brightness and contrast, and when appropriate, providing a new narration soundtrack.

Patient and Animal Rights: "When reporting experiments on human subjects, authors should indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional and national) and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000 (5). If doubt exists whether the research was conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration, the authors must explain the rationale for their approach, and demonstrate that the institutional review body explicitly approved the doubtful aspects of the study. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from all patients for posting their medical pictures, videos, sound tracts and medical information on this website. Usage of any material on this site is restricted to Medical and Healthcare Education. Patient names and addresses are held in strict confidence. No patient identifiable material is stored in the site except for a few facial photographs or videos and in these cases the authors must certify that they obtained patient or guardian written permission.

 

How to Upload & Submit: All papers must be submitted in Microsoft Word or a Text File to allow editing. Videos should be in MPEG2 (.mpg), Windows Media Video (.wmv), Flash (.flv) or Quicktime (.mov). Videos and pictures may also be uploaded on WAENT upload page.

A free program which does a good job of video conversion is: http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ Be sure to set the proper output dimensions. If you have a PAL (Europe) camera use a setting of 720 by 576. If you have a NTSC (USA) camera use 720 by 480. Widescreen or standard videos will have different pixel dimensions. Thus, leave the video aspect on "auto".

 

References: Reference format should be the same as found in Pub Med and should be consistent in the submitted article.
